We set out to build a wall-mounted outdoor heater with one clear goal in mind: give you serious warmth without blinding you with light. The heart of it is an infrared lamp that puts heat first, light second. This matters when the unit is close to people—even babies—so the type of warmth it gives off and how it’s controlled isn’t something we cut corners on.
Power, Voltage, and Shape: What Makes It Tick
With infrared heaters, what really matters is how much heat hits a space, not how bright the glow is. We built the lamp to run on standard mains voltage, so it delivers steady wattage in a short, compact tube. The shape matters. A shorter, high-wattage element focuses the heat into a tight beam, which is perfect when you’re mounting the heater on a wall above a small outdoor area. That setup means one big perk: heat, fast. Flip it on, and you feel it almost right away. But there’s a trade-off. The fixture and wiring around the heater get hot. If you’re running it full-time inside an enclosed housing, you have to make sure the wiring, terminals, and mounting materials can handle that steady heat.
Materials and Design: Keeping It Simple, Tough, and Safe
Inside the lamp, a halogen cycle runs within a quartz envelope. Quartz can take the heat, and it stays steady even when the unit cycles on and off again and again. The halogen gas keeps the filament clean, so the output stays consistent over time and you don’t get that darkening you see with some bulbs. The lamp uses an R7s connector—double-ended, linear, and straightforward to install in compatible fixtures. Wiring it is simple, but you still need solid strain relief and smart thermal management at the socket. We also added a protective coating on the outer surface. It softens glare and lowers the surface temperature of the envelope, so there’s less risk of a burn if someone gets close—and far less harsh visible brightness.
What It Feels Like to Use: Warmth Without the Squint
In bathrooms or outdoor spots where people are right nearby, the point is warmth that doesn’t make you squint or shield your eyes. The lamp is tuned to push out infrared energy, while the coating and reflector optics keep visible light gentle. The payoff is targeted radiant heat. It warms bodies and surfaces directly, without blasting the air around you. For engineers, it’s a practical drop-in solution—quick to install, easy to service. Just keep one thing in mind: the heat is directional. You get strong performance within the beam angle, so plan your coverage zones and mounting height to avoid uneven warmth.
