
Why Your Oven Needs Nichrome IR Tubes
If you’re serious about baking, you know that just setting a temperature isn’t enough. You’ve got to nail the timing. The rise, the sear, the drying—it all happens in stages. But most ovens have this annoying lag. You set the heat, and you just… wait. That’s why we use Nichrome infrared (IR) tubes in our deck ovens. Instead of just heating up the air and hoping for the best, these tubes send short-wave radiation straight into the dough. It’s direct. It’s immediate.
Getting a Grip on the Heat
Standard heating elements are bulky. They take forever to warm up and even longer to cool down. It’s like trying to steer a cruise ship—you turn the wheel, but the ship doesn’t actually move for a while. Our Nichrome IR tubes are different. We house the heating wire in a high-purity quartz envelope, which cuts out all that heavy thermal inertia. This gives you “second-level” control. When you kill the power, the heat drops almost instantly. When you flip the switch back on, you’re at peak wattage in seconds. You can jump from 180°C to 230°C and back again without that dreaded “overshoot” where the oven keeps getting hotter even after you’ve told it to stop.
The Nitty-Gritty of Setup
We designed these to be drop-in replacements for industrial setups. Because we use a Nichrome alloy, they can handle rapid cycling without burning out or oxidizing. They’re tough. But here’s the thing: you can’t just plug these into a cheap thermostat. If you do, the temperature will bounce around like crazy. You’ll need a solid PID controller and some a few good SSRs (Solid State Relays) to keep the heat steady. Also, a quick heads-up—IR tubes pack a lot of punch. Make sure your oven’s ventilation is up to the task, or those rapid heat spikes might put some unnecessary stress on your chassis.
