Getting Your Husky HyPET Heating Just Right
If you’ve spent any time around a high-speed PET blowing line, you know the struggle. You need that preform to hit a very specific temperature before it hits the mold. But too often, you run into the “cold core” problem. The outside of the plastic is practically melting, but the center is still stiff. It’s frustrating, and it ruins your bottles. We built our replacement lamps for the Husky HyPET system specifically to stop that from happening.
Getting the heat where it actually matters
Most standard IR lamps just bounce off the surface of the PET. It’s like trying to warm up a room by shining a flashlight at the wall. We do things differently. By using a specific short-wave spectrum and a specialized quartz blend, we push the heatdeepinto the plastic. It doesn’t just sit on the surface; it penetrates. This means your heating cycles get shorter. More importantly, the melt is uniform all the way through the wall of the preform. We also tuned the wattage and voltage to fit the HyPET footprint perfectly. Even when you’re pushing the machine to its absolute limit, the oven holds its temperature. We’re obsessive about the length and diameter, too. If a lamp is off by a fraction, it doesn’t sit right in the reflector. Ours fit exactly where they should.
No headaches during install
Nobody wants to spend their weekend rewiring an oven. That’s why we use R7s and Sk15 connectors. They’re drop-in replacements. You pull the old one out, pop the new one in, and you’re back in business. And because we use high-thermal-shock quartz, you don’t have to baby them. They won’t crack when you’re powering them up or down during a shift change. They just work.
One thing to keep in mind
Here’s the catch: these lamps put out a massive amount of heat density. That’s great for the plastic, but it puts a lot of pressure on your oven’s ventilation. If your cooling fans are clogged with dust or starting to fail, the ambient temperature inside the oven will spike. When that happens, your preforms can deform. **Keep your airflow clear.**If the air moves, the lamps do their job, and your scrap rate stays low. These things are built for the grind of a 24/7 production floor. We handled the physics so you can just focus on hitting your numbers.
