Getting Your Sidel PET Blowers Back Up and Running
If you’ve ever dealt with a PET blowing machine, you know the drill. You need that infrared heat to be exactly right—soft enough to shape the plastic, but not so hot that you’re scorching the preforms. When a lamp finally gives out, you don’t want a project. You just want a replacement that fits and works. We’ve spent a lot of time making sure our lamps slide right into Sidel systems and pretty much every other major brand out there. We don’t overcomplicate it. We just focus on the three things that actually matter: the power, the size, and the heat.
The Nitty-Gritty
These tubes have to take a beating. We’re talking high voltage and massive wattage—usually 400V/2500W—because you need that heat to punch through thick PET walls in a matter of seconds. To keep things from warping under all that stress, we use high-purity quartz glass. It’s tough. But a quick heads-up: make sure your voltage matches your transformer. If it’s off, you’ll either end up with cold plastic or a popped filament. Neither is a good day at the office.
No Rewiring Required
Nobody wants to spend their shift rewiring an oven. That’s why we stick to standard R7s and Sk15 connectors. You just swap them out. Inside the tube, we use a halogen gas fill. This stops the quartz from turning dark over time, so the heat keeps hitting the plastic just as hard after thousands of hours as it did on day one. Some of our lamps even have special coatings to help the heat soak into the PET better, which means you aren’t just wasting electricity heating up the air.
Real Talk: The Shop Floor
Now, these lamps are versatile, but they aren’t magic. High-output lamps put a bit more pressure on your cooling fans. If your vents are clogged with dust or grime, the chamber gets too hot. That’s a quick way to fry your electrodes and shorten the life of the lamp. We keep these in stock because we know waiting weeks for an OEM shipment is a nightmare. You just swap the tube, double-check that the contacts are tight, and get back to work.
