
Fixing Those Annoying Heat Issues in KHS and SIPA Blow Molding
Ever pull a bottle off the line and see those weird pearlescent streaks or uneven walls? It’s frustrating. Usually, it boils down to one thing: your preform ovens aren’t heating evenly. When that happens, you’re usually fighting with the IR emitter’s output or filaments that have just seen better days. The Secret is in the Heat Density We built our lamps to be simple drop-in replacements for SIPA and KHS specs. They’re short-wave infrared emitters, but we spent a lot of time tweaking the tungsten filament diameter and the purity of the quartz. Why? Because we want the heat to hit the PET exactly where it needs to. If you’re running high-wattage setups for those fast cycle times, you need a tight thermal profile across the whole tube. No gaps. No cold spots. Getting the Fit Right There’s nothing worse than a lamp that bows under heat. To stop that, we use heavy-wall quartz glass. It stays straight, even when things get scorching. We also stick to standard R7s or SK15 connectors. They lock in tight. That’s important because a loose connection causes arcing, which fries your socket and kills the lamp way too soon. Plus, we’ve refined the coating so less energy bounces away and more of it actually hits the preform. It keeps the oven chassis from getting unnecessarily hot. A Quick Heads-Up on the Trade-offs Here’s the thing: these lamps push a lot of energy. It’s great for your throughput, but it does put more pressure on your cooling blowers. Just double-check that your airflow is up to the task. You don’t want your oven internals overheating just because you’ve cranked up the production speed. And if you’re seeing “hot spots” or that annoying “zebra effect” during heating, take a look at your lamp age.
