
Fixing Those Annoying Heat Spots in Your SIG Blomax 10
If you’ve spent any time with a KHS or SIG Blomax 10, you know the frustration of uneven heat. One minute everything is fine, and the next, you’re staring at bottles with weird wall thickness or deformed shapes. It usually comes down to the heat field. You get those “cold spots” that leave you with stress whitening, or “hot spots” that practically sear the PET preform. It’s a headache. That’s why we built a replacement lamp designed to actually smooth those gradients out. The nitty-gritty on power To get a preform to that glass transition temperature quickly, you need the right wattage-to-length ratio. We didn’t overcomplicate this. We used high-density quartz glass to handle the thermal shock and kept the electrical specs identical to the OEM. That means you can just swap them in. No rewiring your control cabinets, no electrical nightmares. Plus, we focused on high voltage stability so the filaments don’t just burn out the second you start rapid cycling. Better glass, better heat Here’s the thing about quartz: carbon buildup is a silent killer. It coats the glass, blocks the IR radiation, and suddenly your heat output just drops off. We use a specialized halogen cycle to keep that envelope crystal clear. We also tweaked the way the filament is wound. The result? A much flatter thermal profile. Instead of erratic spikes, the heat spreads evenly from the neck all the way down to the base. It just works better. Getting them on the floor These are true drop-in replacements. You pull the old tube, slide these in, and you’re done. You don’t even have to touch the reflectors. One quick heads-up, though. When you increase the heat density to get that uniformity, your oven’s exhaust system has to work a bit harder. If you’re pushing more BTUs to hit faster cycle times, take a second to check your cooling fans. If they’re clogged and the ambient air gets too hot, you’ll still see overheating in the preform shoulders—no matter how good the lamp is.
