
Fixing those annoying heat swings in your SIPA SFR 12
If you’re running a SIPA SFR 12, you know the frustration of inconsistent heat. One minute it’s fine, the next you’ve got uneven wall thickness or a preform that just fails. It’s a headache. Most of the time, the culprit is actually pretty simple: replacement lamps that are “almost” right. Here’s the thing. If the wattage or voltage is even slightly off from the original OEM specs, the infrared wavelength shifts. It sounds like a tiny detail, but it means your preform isn’t absorbing heat where it needs to. Why “close enough” doesn’t work We make our lamps as direct drop-in replacements for the SFR 12. We’ve seen too many shops use lamps that are nearly the right spec, only to end up with thermal gradients. That’s how you get “cold spots.” Then, the natural reaction is to crank up the heat for the whole oven just to fix one spot, but that usually just ends up scorching the preform neck. It’s a losing battle. We match the power profile 100% so the heat stays steady across every single lamp. The nuts and bolts These are shortwave halogen lamps wrapped in high-purity quartz. We also added a specific coating that pushes the IR energy toward the preform instead of letting it bounce off the oven walls. And a quick tip on the connectors (R7s or Sk15): make sure they’re tight. A loose fit creates those little electrical arcs that eat away at the lamp ends. It’s a fast way to kill a perfectly good lamp. Getting them running You can pop these in and get back to production right away. But a word of caution. High-density IR lamps pull a lot of power. If you’re pushing for those lightning-fast cycle times, your cooling fans need to be spotless. If the oven can’t breathe, the heat soak will chew through the life of your lamps. Oh, and keep your reflectors polished. It keeps the beam focused exactly where it belongs.
