Why Most Bathroom Heaters Fail (and How We Fixed It)
Ever stepped out of a shower into a drafty bathroom and felt that instant, bone-chilling cold? Most heaters try to fix this by warming up the air. But in a room with vents or open doors, that warm air just disappears. It’s a waste of electricity. We decided to stop fighting the air and start heating the person. That’s where short-wave infrared (IR) comes in. Instead of heating the room, these lamps send energy straight to your skin and the surfaces around you. It’s the same way the sun warms you up on a crisp spring day. Heat that actually hits you We designed these for speed. We use a tungsten filament inside a quartz tube that hits its peak temperature in milliseconds. You don’t have to stand there waiting for the room to “warm up.” You flip the switch, and you feel it. Right away. Because it’s short-wave radiation, the heat sinks deeper into your body, which is exactly what you need when you’re shivering in a locker room. The nitty-gritty stuff To keep the fixtures from melting under all that heat, we use high-purity quartz glass. It lets the IR rays pass right through without soaking up the heat itself. And if you want that high-end, “luxury spa” feel, we just crank up the filament density to get more power. One heads-up if you’re installing these: these lamps are thirsty for power. They pull a lot of current. If you’re putting these in a commercial building, double-check your breakers. You don’t want the power tripping right during the morning rush. A few things to keep in mind We kept the maintenance simple. Most of our units use standard R7s snap-in connectors. When a bulb eventually goes out, you just pop it out and put a new one in. No need to tear the whole wall apart. But here’s the catch: IR is line-of-sight. If someone stands behind a curtain or a wall, they aren’t getting any heat. It’s like a flashlight; if you’re in the shadow, you’re cold. When you’re planning where to put these, watch how people actually move through the space. Map out the paths they take so you don’t leave any cold spots.
